Ed Cherney has held one of his private studios here at the Village for nearly a decade.

Ed is a Grammy award winning Producer, Engineer, and all around great guy. Ed is especially known for his work with artists such as Iggy Pop, Bob Seger, Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones, just to name a few…

We found an interview of him, filmed here at the studio for Bobby Owsinski’s DVD Handbook. Take a look!

Thanks for being awesome, Ed!

Mayer Hawthorne

Mayer Hawthorne, “Age ain’t nothing but a number”

Mayer Hawthorne

“Age ain’t nothing but a number” is how Mayer Hawthorne responds to labeling.
He has been called “Retro Soul” amongst other tags, but Mayer isn’t trying to be
a throwback artist, he is merely innovating the art of new/old.

It is clear from his
music video for “The Walk” that Hawthorne’s strengths lay not only in his vocal
ability and solid arrangement skills, but when a sense of humor comes in to play, he
was served a heaping helping of that as well.

Apparently, “swagger” looks like Buddy
Holly glasses and seersucker tennis shorts. With a little help from Alex Williams,
Studio B was alive with the sounds of Mayer’s new work. And if you’re looking to see
him live, the next gig will be a DJ set, exclusively spinning 45’s, on New Years Eve in
Los Angeles. Mayer is one to watch; he is shaking things up in the music world and
he’s not apologizing for it.

Al Gore The Future

Al Gore At The Village

Al Gore The Future

Calling Al Gore a remarkable human being would be an understatement. Not
only did this Harvard grad serve his Country as the 45th Vice President of the
United States, but he has authored several books and essays, founded numerous
environmental non-profits, become partner of a venture capital firm and won a
Primetime Emmy Award, a Grammy award and (no big deal), a Nobel Peace Prize.

Al Gore and Barack Obama

Born and raised in Washington D.C, Gore and his family were steeped in politics and
academics from the start. His mother and father are equally as impressive as their
son; Pauline LaFon Gore was one of the first women to graduate from Vanderbilt
University Law School and Albert Gore Sr. served as the U.S senator for Tennessee.
Former Vice President Gore visited The Village this month to record an audio book,
details to come, and we were more than honored to have him in our Studio A with
Ghian Wright.

Casey Abrams performing on American Idol

Casey Abrams may not have been the winner of Season 10 on American Idol, but when you’re working with Steve Jordan, Don Was, Dean Parks and Concord Records…you probably don’t care. Casey is already on his way to a promising musical career at only 21 years of age. He attended Idyllwild Arts Academy in California for middle and high school, learning and performing the jazz that made him such a standout in the Idol competition. This month, he has been feverishly working on his first album in Studio D, joining the ranks of other legendary inhabitants such as Stevie Nicks, T Bone Burnett, Thomas Newman and Eric Clapton. We are sure to see great things from Casey Abrams in the coming year.

Weezer’s Rehearsals in the Village

Weezer

Weezer

Set to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band next month, Weezer continues to make their mark on the music world. Since their first gig, opening for Keanu Reeve’s band, the guys have been continually creating songs that are both edgy and fun, while still maintaining a strong sense of musicality. They even reached cult status with the 1996 “Pinkerton” album that originally didn’t do so well. It ended up sparking the interest of Weezer lovers everywhere and was eventually included in a top 100 list of best 90’s songs. Rivers, Pat, Brian and Scott rocked Studio B this month, rehearsing for a week long Carnival Cruise from Miami to Cozumel in which they were the main event.
